God
Is Not Mocked . . .
Reading the news this morning with a cup
of coffee (full of great antioxidants!) made me realize how very
much our nation is in need of a revival of hearts and minds that
believe in God and trust His word, and are not afraid to let the
world know it!
Let me share with you just a very small
sampling of this morning’s top news stories:
-
Les. U. Knight, spokesman for the voluntary
human extinction movement (VHEMT) said the greenest habit humans
can have is to prevent creation of another member of the
species, reducing humanity’s ecological footprint on the earth.
“The ultimate goal (of the movement) is one I will never see,”
Knight said. “I will never see the day that there are not humans
on the planet.” When asked about the size of the group, Knight
says, “There must be several million people who have arrived at
the conclusion that we would be better off without humans.”
· Girls’ gang sets deadly home blasts over boy.
· 5 Bodies, including 3 children found in Texas
home.
·
Nearly 2,000 bare all in stadium art project.
· Teen gets MRSA from lip piercing . . . almost
dies.
· Three men die in “detergent suicide” pact.
The first two incidents are natural
disasters and every one of us can sympathize and hopefully come
to the aid of those whose lives are affected. Certainly the
Bible teaches us to do that. Paul told the Galatians, “And let
us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap
if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let
us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household
of faith” (Galatians 6:9-10).
The next seven newsworthy (?) stories are
the result of God creating man as a free moral agent. Man can
decide not to procreate if he wants to. Young people can decide
to play with fire, blow up houses, get a lip piercing and
develop a deadly disease if they want to. People are free to
“bare all” in an art project in a sports stadium, murder their
families, or take their own lives.
People are free to make stupid, selfish,
destructive choices every day. The prevailing cultural attitude
is that every man can do what is right in his own eyes. The real
truth, however, is that God will never be fooled for one minute.
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows,
that he will also reap” (Galatians 6: 7).
The Greek word for “mocked” in this verse,
literally means, “turn nose up” or to “snub” God. One can only
“snub” God for a short time. “For it is written, ‘As I live,
says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue
shall confess to God.’ So then each of us shall give account of
himself to God” (Romans 14: 11-12). I often wonder how the daily
news would change if people really believed that they would give
an account to God for their moment of glory?
